We Could have Bought a Hamster

 
We could have bought a hamster.
We could have bought a cat.
We could have bought a silent snake,
oh, just imagine that!

We could have bought a lizard,
a llama or a frog.
I think I'd even settle for
another stupid dog.

But someone said he knew a way 
to fill our lives with joy.
He said, "Let's start a family
with a little girl and a boy."

Now almost every single night
our home's filled with the sound 
of screams and shouts and cries and pouts 
that come from all around.

We could have bought a hamster.
We could have bought a cat.
We could have bought a silent snake,
oh, just imagine that!
