Ice Covered Rocks Along the Carriage Road<\/p><\/div>\n

On February 18th, Frosty and I went to Acadia National Park. We parked at the Jordan Pond parking lot. It was overcast and 21 degrees at the start.<\/p>\n

After gearing up, we walked across the pond. A number of people were out ice fishing.<\/p>\n

We walked on a carriage road that bordered the pond on the west side. Looking toward Penobscot Mountain from the road you could see wonderful cliffs glistening with ice. It was beautiful, but too far up to photograph with my camera.<\/p>\n

From the carriage road, we took the Deer Brook trail up to the saddle between Penobscot and Sargent. We got on our wind gear just before leaving the tree line. Then we continued onto the summit of Penobscot.<\/p>\n

It was an overcast and windy. We continued down the ridge along the ledges on the Penobscot Mountain Trail.<\/p>\n

Later, we came to the junction with the Spring Trail. We decided not to take this trail.This would have been a shorter route down. But I’m familiar with that trail, I know there were a few places that could be sketchy in the winter depending on conditions. We stayed on the longer, but easy route.<\/p>\n

We joined a carriage road at the end of the trail. The icicles dripping off the rocks and cliffs along the road were so beautiful. A photographer with high quality gear was out there capturing the scene.<\/p>\n

As we passed the spot where the Spring Trail meets the carriage road, we saw a backpack flying down onto the road. A hiker had turned around on the trail after coming to a bad section. Been there… done that… just the day before in fact.<\/p>\n

My Garmin battery died before we made it back to the parking lot. It measured 5.25 miles before dying. I estimate the total mileage as 5.5 miles.<\/p>\n
