Since I got my first Ida Outfitter vest for Christmas 2016, it has been a staple for layering during my winter adventures. It keeps my core warm, which is important during winter activities. There have been many times I snowshoed with just a long sleeve shirt and my Outfitter vest.

The vest adds warmth without being bulky. This is important if you do need to add more warmth layers or wind layers. It is easy to move in as well.

Magoo in the Stormy Kromer Ida Outfitter Vest in Blue Spruce

The Ida Outfitter has three pockets. One pocket is on the back near your side. I have never used the back pocket. It also has a pocket on each side of the hip/waist area. I sometimes slip my phone or a PowerBar into one of the front pockets. The pockets do not have zippers. I don’t think anything could fall out of them while the vest is being worn because of the way they are arranged — unless you do cartwheels or stand on your head.

Magoo in the Stormy Kromer Ida Outfitter Vest in Blue Spruce

I don’t use the pockets a lot because I usually have a backpack on when we are snowshoeing and the hip belt would need to be undone to access the pockets. I don’t think bulky items would fit well in the pockets, nor would you want that bulge on your belly. A lip balm, phone, or thin wallet would be fine.

The vest has a metal zipper which I have had no problems with. It also has a high neck which I love for a little more wind protection. I usually still wear a merino wool buff around my neck for added warmth. I hate having a cold neck. The vest seems well made and has an 80/20 wool/nylon blend fabric.

Frosty in His SK Outfitter Vest from Stormy Kromer in Red Pine Plaid

Frosty got the men’s version this winter, the SK Outfitter.
