On Saturday, March 30th, Frosty and I headed up to Greenville to hike Little Moose Mountain<\/a>. We parked at the Moose Mountain Inn.<\/p>\n

There Was Lots of Tree Confetti Littering the Ground for This Hike<\/p><\/div>\n

The sun was out at the very beginning of our hike. But, the gray skies came quickly and never left. The temperature was 32\u00b0 The bottom third of the trail was a well packed monorail. The snow was firm with little sinking.<\/p>\n

The views on the way up, after the first viewpoint, were gray, but still scenic and expansive.\u00a0The trail was littered with tree confetti.<\/p>\n

After the first third of the trail, the snow on the trail was compacted, but not as well defined. If you stepped off the trail, you sank.<\/p>\n

There are a couple little steep sections before the highpoint of the trail that can be tricky in certain conditions. This winter. This winter these sections have been easy to climb.<\/p>\n

Icy Rocks on Little Moose Mountain<\/p><\/div>\n

The trail bypasses the summit of Little Moose Mountain which is wooded. When snowshoeing, we turn around at the highest point of the trail before it drops down to Papoose Pond, Big Moose Pond, and Little Moose Pond.<\/p>\n

The temperature was 27\u00b0 at our turn around spot. The weather wasn’t as warm as predicted. That worked out well and kept the snow firm. There was also a chance of rain. It ended up spitting snow on us for a short time.<\/p>\n

The views on the descent weren’t as good. The visibility was limited and only the base of Big Moose Mountain could be seen.<\/p>\n

We heard voices and soon came upon a group of four hikers from the Northwoods Wellness Cooperative. They were on their way down. They had gone up to one of the viewpoints and were descending.<\/p>\n

Not the most scenic trip to Little Moose, but it was good to get outside!<\/p>\n
