It is a short, but steep, hike. The weather was incredible!!! My car displayed the temperature as 34 degrees, when we started. Luckily, we got out in the morning. It clouded up later in the day. While we were out, the sun was glorious. It is beautiful to enjoy snow and such intense sun. Today was one of those spring days that you feel the sun recharging your inner battery.

The trail today was well packed. Snowmobiles had packed it down well. This hike could have been done in boots. We met two snowmobilers on their way down as we headed up.

The Blue Bar Is the Heel Lift for the Snowshoe

As we climbed the steep section, Frosty suggested that I use my heel lifts. This trail was the perfect terrain for it. The heel lifts ease the strain on your muscles and tendons going uphill. I had never used my lifts before. I actually forgot they were there. Frosty had to show me how to raise the lifts up. I worried about using them. I was unsure that these little bars could hold my weight. They not only held me, but they worked great..

Going up Bald Mountain in Dedham Maine

There are nice views from the steep section, which is open. So, if you need to take a break (or ten), you can check out the view while resting. The top has several towers, poles, and small buildings. If you keep walking past these, there is an opening and a great view. We could make out a snowy Mount Katahdin in the distance.

This hike was the first hike that Frosty used his new backpack on. He recently got the Gossamer Gear Kumo. Robert says this pack “sings” at 15 pounds. The pack worked out really well for him. He liked the way it felt while on. Frosty plans to put it to the test on a longer hike.

View from Bald Mountain in Dedham Maine

This hike is close to the Bangor area and short.
