emotional inference

"Connecting to emotions and senses helps us get deeper into the layers of comprehension within text because we can identify with the character or situation in extremely personal ways." (Ketch, A., 2005, p. 9) 

Working Definition

Those inferences that are based upon emotional content, typically regarding character's feelings. The distinction between logical and emotional inferences is not one without numerous murky overlaps. The distinction is made here for the sake of monitoring balance in both the types of inferences the students make and those that the teacher prompts for.
